Passed on: June 27th, 2017

Age 84 of Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He struggled with illness with great strength of mind, never complaining, always looking ahead. Allan was born on March 29, 1933 to Walter and Nora Manning (Coffey) in the little hamlet of Cuslett in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. There he attended a one room school house until moving to St. Johns to complete his education with three years at St. Bonaventure College followed by two years of pre-med at Memorial University. Allan spent a good deal of his working years in the mining industry working in Shefferville, Quebec as well as in Labrador and Liberia, West Africa. His last ten years of work were spent running Rocky Lake Quarry in Bedford, Nova Scotia. Always seeking better opportunities for his family, leaving us with an abundance of treasured life experiences. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife Mary (McGrath), loving daughters Kathleen Pottle (Wayne), Diane Bennett (Bobby), Nora Campbell (David), cherished sons Desmond (Nora) and Daryl; grandchildren Sherry Lynn Whalen, Bobbie Lee Bennett-Moran, Vashti Campbell, Kimberly Whalen, Alicia Bennet and Tyler Bennet as well as great grandchildren; Tory, Megan, Kennedy, Jackson, Austin and Brody. Predeceased by his parents, step-mother Kathleen; brothers Mick, Gerry, Leonard, Johnny and Walter; sister Mary Anne English; nephew Gerard English; nieces Leona English, Mary Power, Karen and Lisa Manning and great niece Lori Simmons. Allan was a quiet, private man in life as well as in death and he chose to have a family graveside service in Oakridge Memorial Gardens in Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia. For those wishing, donations can be made in his memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. A man of few words, Allan's main focus in life was family, to provide, to advise, to lend a helping hand. Loving husband, loving father, loving friend. Online condolences may be sent to www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com Sackville Chapel.
