CURRIE, Constance, Joy “Connie” - age 86, of Kingston, NS, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 in the Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton. Born in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of Willis “Jack” and Ida (Lewis) Gidney. Connie lived in Digby Neck and Digby as a child before moving to Bridgetown at an early age. She was employed at various jobs until 1966, when she began work at the Adult Residential Centre in Bridgetown as a personal care worker. She enjoyed working with the residents and was on staff for 30 years and 6 months. While employed there, she was president of the Canadian Union Public Employees local 2859 for 12 years. Connie loved animals, and after retirement, she volunteered at animals shelters. She also loved to work in the garden, read, play scrabble, do crossword puzzles and loved to feed and look after birds of all kinds. Any day she could help a homeless or injured animal was a great day for her. She is survived by sister, Flora (Don) Bickford and brothers, Steve Gidney and John Gidney all of Saint John, NB and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, David; grandmother Evelyn Pyne who raised her; sisters, Viola, Evelyn, Rita and Jean; brothers, Amos, Jack, Frank and Floyd. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A Celebration of Life service was held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 25th in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448 with Rev. Leon Langille officiating. A reception for family and friends followed the service. Donations in memory may be made to the Companion Animal Protection Society (CAPS) or Kings County SPCA.
