James Leonard ‘Jimmie’ Hayes, 82, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on December 1, 2017 in the Windsor Elms Village.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Jack and Floss (Bryne) Hayes.
Jimmie served 13 years with the RCAF as an aircraft mechanic before working a full 26 year career with Air Canada.
In his younger years, he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball. He enjoyed watching and was very knowledgeable about all sports, and often spoke enthusiastically about maritime sports history.
He was a good conversationalist and enjoyed talking about world events and trivia.
Jimmie is survived by daughter, Dawn (Jeff) Sabean; sons, Brian (Kelly), Terry (Donna), David (Deneen) and Barry (Anne-Marie); grandchildren, Tara (Scott), Michael, Krista (Leo), Mark (Alyssa), Alisha (Chad), Alex, Devon, Matthew and Madeline, and great-grandchild, Rowan. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne (Linda) and Allister (Honey), and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Pearl, in 2010.
Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made towards research for Lewy Body dementia in care of the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
