It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) M. Sisnett, age 80, on February 7, 2018 at the QEII Hospital in Halifax. Born in Sydney Mines on October 30,1937, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Ada (Bowen) Gordon.
Betty graduated in 1959 from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, as an RN. She met the love of her life, John, in Greenwood, and enjoyed 54 years of marriage together. John was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, so they lived in various places such as Prince Edward Island, Germany, and throughout Europe. Eventually they settled in Baddeck, and Betty worked as an RN at Alderwood Nursing Home. After retirement she continued to volunteer at Alderwood. Betty was a very active member of St. Michael’s Parish and a member of the CWL. Over the years, she was also active in Curling, enjoyed nature and was an avid gardener.
She is survived by her husband, John; brothers, Charles (Jennie), John and Skipper (Mabel); sisters, Theresa, Sr. Ada and Frances, and sister-in-law, Deidre Barclay. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Anne (Kevin) MacKenzie, Mike (Annette) Gordon, Sue (Randy) Spurrell, Donnie (Jeanette) Gordon, Dave Gordon, Joe (Carrie) Gordon, Terry (David) MacKenzie, Peggy (Tom) Gordon Marsh, Angela Gordon (Keith), Erin Gordon (Josh), Sandy Gordon (Lisa), Aimee Gordon, Groves Barclay, Alistair Barclay and Nicola Barclay, and many great-nieces and nephews.
Betty had many dear neighbours and friends including Sharon and Bruce MacIntyre, Bernice and Athol Grant, and Evelyn and Wilson Hebb.
Besides her parents, Betty is predeceased by brothers, Bill and Bobby Gordon.
Cremation has taken place, under the care of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck, NS. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at St. Michael’s Parish, Baddeck with Fr. Angus MacDougall officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
