Effie Grace Urquhart

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Effie Grace (Buchanan) Urquhart, age 82, surrounded by loved ones at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, April 19, 2018. Born in River Bennett, June 12, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Elizabeth A. (Brewer) Buchanan. She was a member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church in French River.
Grace will be dearly missed by her surviving children, Donald Urquhart (Christine), Glace Bay and John Urquhart (Connie), Baddeck; step-son, Charlie MacEachern (Tarbot); brother, William Buchanan, Toronto; grandchildren, Holly, Amy (Colin), Jordyn and John Thomas Urquhart, Kaitlin MacDonald, Johnathon Meade, Leah and Adrian MacEachern, as well as special niece and nephew, Sherry Schreiter and Ken Buchanan.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, John Thomas Urquhart; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Urquhart; brothers, Donald, Arthur, Edward and Fraser Buchanan, and nephew, Keith Buchanan.
Grace was happiest when spending time with family, talking on the telephone to her many friends, listening to music and knitting her famous dish cloths.
Visitation will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 39 Grant St., Baddeck, Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 1 p.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. officiated by Rev. Brian MacLeod. Burial will be held at, at a later date.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Roland Genge, her long-time family doctor, for all his care over the years. Although Grace didn’t want to be in the hospital and wanted to be home, she really liked the hospital staff and the care they provided. We would also like to thank the home care staff for the time and care that they contributed. Cremation has taken place, under the care and direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck, NS.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the cancer society.
