Betty Lorriane Curry

Betty Lorriane Curry, 83, Wentworth, passed Sunday, May 27, 2018 in North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash.
Born in Wentworth, she was a daughter of the late Byron and Alberta (Little) Patriquin. Betty went to school in Wentworth and Tatamagouche before attending Teachers College. She began teaching in the Folly Lake and Wentworth area, and later in the Amherst area for 30 years, including Fort Lawrence. She was also Teaching Principal at Sir Charles Tupper School.
Following marriage, she lived in Amherst for 20 years, later returning to Wentworth. Betty was very interested in community activities. She was a member, elder and organist of Wentworth United Church, and life member of the Wentworth UCW. She was President of Wentworth Unit Cancer Society and Wentworth Recreation Centre. She was also Secretary of Cumberland County Seniors’ Council, and a member of WCDC, Wentworth Seniors’ Club, Wentworth Archives and Learning Centre. Betty received the Provincial Volunteer Award in 1997.
Music was a definite highlight of her life, beginning at age 10 when she started to play the piano. She was soon called on to join dance bands, play for weddings and funerals. She also filled in as an organist in various churches throughout NS and NB.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Morin; grandchildren, Breanna Curry, Marcia Leard, Stephan and Joel Morin; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Isabella, Reilly, Hawksley, Saskia and Jordyn. She was predeceased by husband, Douglas; son, Byron.
Arrangements are in the care of MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, Oxford (902-447-2930). Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30 in Wentworth United Church.
