NEW GLASGOW – Harvey Wayne Gillis, 62, Gables Lodge, Amherst, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away Monday, September 3, 2018 in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Daniel Joseph and Mary Ellen (Hutchings) Gillis. Harvey always enjoyed a good game of cards, especially 45’s and cribbage. He enjoyed a good kitchen party with guitar music and great friends. You were always welcomed in his home, especially sharing a cold beer. Harvey was a good friend to many and loved a good joke. He was an excellent story teller - his terrific sense of humor would make you laugh every time. Harvey will be dearly missed by all he loved.
Surviving are sisters, Eileen (William) MacPherson, Toronto, Ont.; Lorraine (Fraser) MacLeod, Trenton; brothers, Dougald (Judy) Gillis, Northwest River, Labrador; Raymond “Ray” Gillis, Thorburn; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Sarah Fitzpatrick; brothers, James Allan, Daniel Joseph, George and Ronald.
In keeping with Harvey’s wishes, his life will be celebrated privately.
Donations may be made in Harvey’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Canadian Diabetes Association.
