Upshaw, Ethel Mignon, 98, of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 in the Wolfville Nursing Home with her family by her side. Born on December 20, 1919 in Halifax. She was a daughter of the late, Charles and Ethel (Johnson) Fairfax. Ethel was a foster mom for twenty-five years having received an award for all the love and care she gave to her foster children over the years. She was an adherent of the Windsor Plains United Baptist Church which she lived by for many years. Ethel loved music “Long Black Train” & she enjoyed knitting. Surviving are eight children, Melvin “Sonny” (Jackie), Armdale; Sheila Lopes, Halifax; Charlene (Leonard) Arthur, New Minas; Valerie Crawford, Mississauga; daughter-in-law, Palma Upshaw, Lower Sackville; Wanda (Wayne) Dixon, Lower Sackville; Joy (Stephen) Allen, Falmouth; Michael (Harvia) Gray, Richmond Hill, Ontario; Cindy (Mitchell) States, Brampton, Ontario; 19 grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Marvin; son, Darrell “Johnnie”; grandson, Jody; brother, Charles “Bill”; sons-in-law, Calvin Lopes and Mort Crawford. Ethel’s family would like to thank the staff at the Wolfville Nursing Home for the excellent care (above and beyond) that they gave to their mom “The Queen”. Visitation was held 2-4 & 7-9 pm Sunday, September 30, 2018 in the Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0. Funeral service was 2 pm Monday, October 1, 2018 in Lindsay’s Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Galvin Simmonds officiated. Interment was in the Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King Street, Windsor.
