Passed in: Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: October 17th, 2018

Claire Marie Campbell, age 80, Surette’s Island, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
A proud Acadian fisherman’s daughter, Claire was born to Leo and Georgine (Surette) Muise on Surette’s Island, where she was also raised. She then moved to the Valley to pursue a nursing career and was originally employed as a certified nursing assistant at the Sanatorium in Kentville, NS. It was here in Kentville where she met her “Caper”, the love of her life, an army recruit at Aldershot and they began their life together. She was overjoyed to be married to a Canadian Armed Forces soldier of whom she was so proud. She followed Dad wherever he was posted which included Kentville, two tours in Germany, Oromocto, NB and Greenwood, NS. Mom briefly returned to Surette’s Island before returning with Dad to Antigonish, where he enjoyed his second career in conveyance. Mom and Dad eventually retired to Surette’s Island where they were still currently living. Claire was extremely proud of her Acadian heritage, displaying the Acadian colours with pride and sharing in the Acadian traditions faithfully. She loved her family and was proud of each one of them and they were in her thoughts daily - she was truly the foundation of this Campbell Clan.
Mom was very active with her religion. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Church in Surette’s Island, and was a member of the Catholic Women’s League in Oromocto and Greenwood where she had also taught Sunday school. Claire also served on the board of directors of the Surette’s Island Social Club. She will be fondly remembered by many Island youngsters (who are now adults) who would stop by for a treat and chat. Other than Mom’s love for hummingbirds, Mom’s biggest love was to dress up and go out to dance. In her earlier years she would often be found at the Snackery, jitterbugging her legs off!
Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Beatrice (Boozan) and Billy Campbell of Glace Bay; a granddaughter, Ashley Campbell; brothers, Allan and Camille; as well as many in-laws.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles; sons, Chuck (Tammie), Nanaimo, BC and Leo (Ruth), Liverpool, NS and a daughter, Cynthia (Robert), Dartmouth, NS. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Celine (Jared) Ryan, Harvey, NB, Adam Campbell, Fredericton NB, Jessica (Riley) Zannet, Regina, SK, Allyson (Kyle) Trenholm and Caley Campbell, both of Dartmouth, NS; three great-grandchildren, Bria, Koen and Avyn Ryan, Harvey, NB; sisters, Rose-Marie (Leonard) Surette, Surette’s Island, Jeannine d’Entremont, Pubnico Head, Ada (Clifford) Amirault, Yarmouth; brothers, Arnold (Adeline) Muise, West Pubnico, Chester (Kay) Muise and Earl (Simone) Muise, both of Surette’s Island; sisters-in-law, Pearl (Albert) Moore, Rose Cosick, Barbara (George) Simmons and brothers-in-law, David (Diane) Campbell, Eric (Brenda) Campbell, all of Glace Bay, as well as many nieces and nephews.
As per mom’s wishes, there will be no funeral at this time. She has been cremated under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Her urn will reside with Dad until his death when the two will be reunited again and at which time a funeral will take place with internment in Saint Joseph’s Parish Cemetery, Surette’s Island. We ask that when you think of mom, do so with a smile - rest assured she will be smiling back.
Memorial donations may be made to the Tri-County Site of the VON, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association. You may sign the online guestbook or leave messages of condolence for the family by visiting www.huskilson.net
