Marcella Anna Roberts

Passed on: November 3rd, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our mother Marcella Anna Roberts on November 3, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born on May 9, 1935 in North River, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Effie Belle Smith.
Mom came from a large family and perhaps that was why she always loved to be surrounded by friends and family.
She was pre-deceased by four siblings, Norma, Selby, Ian and Donna, as well as by her husband of many years, D-J, who passed away in 2000.
She leaves behind her son, Mark and his wife Carolyn, their two daughters Jennifer (Graham) and Brittany, and Jennifer's new daughter, Esme; daughter, Elsa; her four beloved grandchildren, Duncan James, Jenny, Liam and Marianne. She is survived by brothers, Henry (Sylvia), Walter and Leonard (Edna), as well as sisters Patsy (Jim) and Carol. Mom leaves behind many special family friends, including John, Colleen, Kimberlee and Kate Roberts.
Mom had many jobs in her career, namely the courthouse and at Alderwood Rest Home where she served as bookkeeper and then Administrator until she retired in 2000. She enjoyed live music, playing cards, bird watching, gardening, watching curling and her beloved Blue Jays. She also loved giving cards and gifts to most people in her life.
She was a friend to many and would "give you the shirt off her back"! Her kindness will be sorely missed, but we are all better for having had her in our lives.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the nursing staff of floor 4D at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital as well as the surgical team for the excellent care and compassion shown to our mom this past week.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 8 from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. at MacAskill Funeral Home in Baddeck, where there will be a service by the Eastern Star. Funeral services will be performed by Rev. Brian MacLeod at Knox Church in Baddeck Friday, November 9 at 2 p.m.
Donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Goose Cove Cemetery, where Marcella will be laid to rest at a later date.
