It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our angel, Winnifred “Winnie” Margaret Haley, age 88, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in North Sydney on December 15, 1930, Winnie was the daughter of the late Brooks and Maggie Devoe. She was a devout member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney and a faithful member of the CWL for many years. She loved walking, enjoyed her outings to restaurants and movies and her drives with family around Cape Breton. Family was everything to Winnie and she especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren. She was kind to everyone she met and always had a smile for everybody.
She is survived by her sons, Dan, North Sydney, Greg (Bonnie), Sydney Mines, her daughter. Patsy (Wayne) MacDonald, North Sydney, her loving grandchildren, Shane (Kate) MacDonald, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Brett (Sandra) MacDonald, Fort McMurray, Lindsay (Steven) Buck, Edmonton, Kyle, Fort McMurray, Aaron, North Sydney, her great-grandchildren, Lucas, Logan & Levi Buck, Cian & Conor MacDonald, special niece, Georgie Bonnar, as well as a number of other nieces and nephews.
Winnie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick Joseph Haley and by a number of brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff of Teresa Terrace at the Northside Guest Home for the loving care given to Winnie during her time there.
By request, there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Winnie at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at St. Joseph Church. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
