Ruby MacAulay

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ruby Jean MacAulay on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Ruby passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness in the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit.
Ruby was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. She opened her heart and her home to family and friends over the years and she will be sorely missed. Ruby’s family was continually amazed at the grace and strength their mother showed during her illness. She enjoyed life, family members and many friends and was always there to brighten the lives of others.
Born May 14, 1934, in Glace Bay, Ruby was the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Jean (Drover) Baggs of Highland Street.
She married Dougal MacAulay and together they raised four children in a loving home. Ruby will be profoundly missed by her children, Jean (Dennis) MacIntyre, South Bar, Shirley MacAulay, Manitoba, Eleanor (Gary) Nolan, Howie Center/Dartmouth and Dougal (Darlene) MacAulay, Sydney; and stepdaughter, Marge Corbett, Reserve. Ruby is survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she dearly cherished and loved. She is also survived by her sisters, Marilyn Hare, Dartmouth, Lillian (Bill) McCormack, Dartmouth, Christina Bradbury, Halifax, Marion (Jerry) Pye, Ottawa, Irene (John) Reid, Glace Bay and Jean Winters, Glace Bay; and one brother, Allister (Linda) Baggs, Ontario.
Besides her parents, Ruby was predeceased by her loving husband, Dougal; brothers, William “Bill”, Melvin and Harold; sisters, Ella (Ray) Barkhouse and Vera Moore.
We feel so blessed that our Mother was in the loving care of the staff of 3B and 4E during her final moments. We are grateful that we were able to be with her during her peaceful passing.
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church on Thursday, April 18 at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Reception to follow at the Grand Lake Road Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
