It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of John Thomas Brian Reid, age 67, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in New Waterford on March 17, 1952, John was the son of the late Moses and Evelyn (Gerrow) Reid. John had been employed with H.B. Nickerson & Sons and National Sea Products in North Sydney for over twenty-five years. John was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, a family man who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored. John will be remembered as a gentle soul with a heart of gold. He was a wise man who was always there to lend a helping hand and always gave the best of advice. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, enjoyed going for walks and loved his dog Molly. John had a great sense of humor and loved to crack jokes. His laugh will forever remain in our hearts.
John is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Laura (Scott) Reid; his daughter, Tanya Reid (Adam); his grandchildren, Brianna and Brady Reid, Kaitlyn and Jordon Robinson; his five sisters, Theresa McNeil, Valerie Reid, Rosie (Morris) Gittens, Sarah Reid, all of New Waterford, Margie Reid, Toronto; one brother, Gordon Reid, Toronto; a number of nieces and nephews; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Paulette Scott, Regina Edmunds, Jacqueline Scott, James Scott and Lloyd Scott.
He was predeceased by his son, John Reid in 2017; brother, Walter Reid, and his nephew, William Gittens.
Visitation for John will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
