Florence Catherine MacNeil

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Florence Catherine MacNeil, 97, dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbour, on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Ball’s Creek, NS, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Gillis) Nolan.
Florence enjoyed receiving visitors. She would always expect you to have at least a cup of tea with her, even lately during her stay at the Northside Guest Home. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed the activities at the Home, especially bowling, dancing and listening to Irish and Celtic music.
Florence was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Church in Frenchvale and a long-time member of the choir. She had been involved with the Ladies auxiliary of the Frenchvale Fire Department and a former member of the North Sydney Seniors and Pensioners Club.
Florence is survived by her daughters, Theresa MacIntyre (Joe), Howie Centre, Anne Tschritter (Wally), Alberta and son, Joseph (Cheryl), Frenchvale; by her grandchildren, Hugh, Tracy, Amy, Danny (Holly) and B.J.; her great-grandchildren, Alexander (Brittany), Samantha, Andrew, Brooke, Trew, Jordan, Morgan, Logan and Kaden, and by many nieces and nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
She was predeceased by husband, Daniel Joseph “D.J.”; two children, Margaret Ann and Beverly Florence; grandson, Joseph “Joe” Nolan MacIntyre, and sister, Ann Georgina “Jean”.
Visitation for Florence will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, in St. Mary’s Church, Frenchvale. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s parish cemetery, Frenchvale. Reception to take place afterwards at Frencvhvale Volunteer Fire Department.
