Ardath Allene Dockwrey

Passed on: May 23rd, 2019

Longtime resident of Point Edward, Ardath Allene Dockwrey died peacefully at home on May 23, 2019, aged 97. She was born in Sydney, daughter of the late D.P MacDonald and Olive MacDonald (nee Richardson).
She attended Sydney Central School, Horton Academy and Toronto Conservatory of Music where she trained as a lyric soprano.
She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2005 and her son, Peter, in 2012. Following her husband's death, she continued to operate the Vogue Theatre with the conscientious support of its manager, the late Ken Williamson. She is survived by her daughter, Anthea; her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Elliott; nephews; great-niece and cousins.
She and her husband traveled extensively, occasionally living in Europe, including Spain where she taught herself Spanish while still in her 20’s. Music was a life-long interest. She was a member of St. Andrew's Church choir and an accomplished pianist. In later life she never missed CBC radio's “Saturday Afternoon at the Opera”, usually while doing a cryptic crossword puzzle. She was an avid reader and self-described news junkie. She cherished her peaceful life in Point Edward and was delighted to see her favourite Forsythia in full bloom this year.
Cremation has taken place. At her request there will be no service, but a celebration of her life will be organized for friends and family.
Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or emailed to sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
