Dorothy Charal MacKenzie

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dorothy Charal MacKenzie on Saturday, May 25, 2019. Charal passed away peacefully at Alderwood in Baddeck with friends and family.
Born in Truro, NS, on April 4, 1930, she was the daughter of Charles Frederick Rowe and Iris May (MacKinnon) Rowe.
She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Charles (Buddy) J.D. MacKenzie; son, Charles (Skip) J.M. MacKenzie and daughter-in-law, Dorothy (Dot); sister, Florrie Cottrell.
She is survived by her daughter, Alana (Doug) Hastings, Baddeck; grandchildren, Jillian Dorothy (Ryan) Tucker, Sherwood Park, AB, Matthew Charles Hastings, Baddeck; sisters, Janice Rivest, Niagara Falls, ON, Dianne (Jim) Coyne, Woodstock, ON, Sharyn Rowe, Ottawa, ON; several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Greenwood United Church; The Alexander Graham Bell Club and the Bras d’Or Yacht Club. Charal enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter and her friend Leah baking cakes or doing crafts and creating very special New Year’s memories. She was always keen to play a hand of bridge with her friends and in younger years snowmobile and cross-country ski.
The family would like to thank MacLeod House staff who made the transition from her home to assisted living an easy one. Alderwood and Victoria County Memorial Hospital staff who looked after Mom with such care and compassion.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 31st, at Greenwood United Church with a reception to follow downstairs in the Church Hall. Burial will be in Middle River Cemetery, family flowers only by request.
If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Memorial Hospital or Alderwood.
