It is with sadness that we, the family of Norma Roper, announce her passing at her residence on Saturday, July 9, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.
Norma was the daughter of the late Norman and Josephine (Smith) Reid. She was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, Reserve Mines.
Norma is survived by her husband of 48 years, Don Roper. Their love and devotion to each other was evident as Norma endured a 15-year battle with cancer. Norma will be deeply missed by her daughter and best friend, Donna (Barry) Rogers, as well as her two precious grandsons, Zachary and Lucas Rogers, who were the light of her life.
Norma is also survived by five sisters, Margie Brufatto, Hamilton, Ont., Diane (Terry) Roberts, Mira, Viola (Greg) O’Leary, Reserve Mines, Anita (Tom) McMullin, River Ryan, and Melissa (Jimmy) Villa, Glace Bay; four brothers, Tom (Karen), Amherst, N.S., Brian (Mevy), Glace Bay, Jim (Sonia), Arichat, N.S., and Keith (Jan), Etobicoke, Ont.; mother-in-law, Anne Roper, Bridgeport; brothers-in-law, Doug (Brenda) Roper, Fort Nelson, B.C., and Ernie (Norma) Roper, Glace Bay. Norma was blessed to be part of such a close and loving family. Norma will also be dearly missed by her close friends, Diane McCormick and Alice Dearn.
Besides her parents, Norma was predeceased by an infant daughter, Ann-Margaret in 1976.
Visitation for Norma will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13 in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
