Brent Lawrence Goodwin, 40, of St. Bernard, N.S., passed away from esophageal cancer on July 1, 2011, in Digby General Hospital at the age of 40. His final days were eased by the loving support of family and friends. Brent dealt with his fatal illness with the same strength, dignity, positive outlook, and consideration for others that he lived his entire life. Born on his father’s birthday on Jan. 29, 1971, to Larry and Greta Goodwin, Brent grew up loving the outdoors and all things mechanical—dirt bikes, power saws, motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, to name a few. He graduated from DRHS in 1989 and NSCC in 1991. He was an electrician by trade and worked in the Digby and Clare areas for 20 years, earning an excellent reputation. He is survived by his devoted wife, Michelle Comeau Goodwin, with whom he shared an active life, including cycling, curling, camping at Keji, walks with their toy poodle ‘Gracie’, and other family activities; former partner Pam Cosman (Digby), and their two beautiful and affectionate children Mattigan (Matti), 11, and Nicholas (Nick), 7, of whom he was so immensely proud; his grandmother Alberta Goodwin; his parents Greta and Larry Goodwin of Hill Grove; Michelle’s parents, Joan Comeau, Weymouth, and Alain Comeau, Belliveau’s Cove; his brother Barry (Lisa) of Halifax; and his sister Kimberley (David) Gorgenyi of Calgary, Alta.; nieces Ava and Kayla Gorgenyi; and stepdaughter Yvelle (Ryan) Bennett. He enjoyed a large extended family on both the Comeau and Goodwin side. The families are extremely grateful for the tremendous support from the community that Brent received during his illness. Visitation was held in Hill Grove United Baptist Church Education Centre on Friday, July 8. A memorial service took place at the same church on Saturday, July 9, with Rev. Julia Howard officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a trust fund for his children, Matti and Nick, at the Scotiabank, Digby, or by cheque to Larry Goodwin, c/o Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 568 Main Street, Wolfville N.S., B4P 1E7.
