It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of John David Young on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, Feb. 20, 1924, David was the son of the late John David and Catherine (MacLean) Young.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was a member of St. Pius X parish and Santa Marie Council 2024 KOC, Sydney Mines.
David is survived by his loving wife, Irene (Jessome) with whom he just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on July 10; son, David (Geraldine) Young, Charlottetown; daughters, Brenda (the late George) Pollard, Montague, P.E.I., and Debra (Hopper) Poirier, Sydney. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeff (Karine) Young, Scott (Natalie) Young, Dalvay (Glenna) Pollard, Shonna Lee (Jason) McCarron, Caitlin, Charlotte and Shelby Poirier. He was so proud to be great-grandfather to Katelynn, New Brunswick, Nolan and Ainsley, Pennsylvania, Kyle and Tyler, Beach Point, P.E.I.
Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his brothers, Fred and John and his sisters, Eva, Eileen, Freda, June and Jenny.
David was known for his sense of humour — he loved to make people laugh. He loved to sing and belonged to church choirs in Sydney, Sydney Mines and Charlottetown, where he lived for many years. He always believed in hard work and he loved his job with the ‘Singer’ Company where he retired after many years of service.
Visitation Friday from 6-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimers Research or to a charity of choice.
