PARKER, Elsie Jane — 87, of Brooklyn, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 18, 2011, in Residence Rose Marie Rest Home, Hantsport, Hants County, with her family by her side. Born on May 18, 1924, in Ellershouse, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late David and Elsie (Brown) Williams. Elsie started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in South Uniacke, and then spent her career teaching in various schools, retiring from Brooklyn District Elementary School in 1985. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Fairfield #32, Order of the Eastern Star, and an active member of Newport Jolly Seniors, the Brooklyn UCW and Newport United Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, dancing in her younger years and family times at the cottage. Her favourite thing to do was driving her Crown Victoria on the highways of Hants County. Elsie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her daughters, Diane (Wendell) Davison, Greenfield, Jackie Parker (Gary Graves), Noel, and Printhie (Wade) Sanford, Union Corner; “special” son, Garnet (Donna) Harvey, Brooklyn; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Sadie (Sanford) Parker and Annette (Delorey) Parker; brother-in-law, Harold Cochrane; sister-in-law, Laura Williams; many nieces, nephews and members of her extended family. She was predeceased by her husband, John; son, Murray; granddaughter, Tammy; brothers, Angus, Art, Chester, and Hughie; sisters, Printhie Demmings and Daisy Cochrane. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, in the Newport United Church, Brooklyn. Rev. Pix Butt officiated. Interment was in the Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix. Donations in memory of Elsie were requested to be made to the Alzheimer Society or to the Newport United Church.
