It is with the saddest hearts that we, the family of Paul Murray Logue, wish to announce his passing on July 29, 2011, in Dalmeny, Sask. Though dad’s health had deteriorated lately, we were all happy to celebrate his 90th birthday on July 1.
Born and raised in Sydney, dad spent many years away from Cape Breton Island, but it was always home. After kicking about a bit, dad joined the Merchant Marine and in his elder years, wore his service medals proudly.
When the war was over, Dad travelled the country until he met the love of his life, Marie. Through the good times and bad, they lived, loved and raised their four children in Cape Breton and Ontario, before coming to Louisbourg in 1973. Dad and mom became a part of the town’s history, with many growing up with the memories of their special school bus driver. (Some of those stories best not be told.)
When mom died in 1991, it was a very dark time for our family, and especially dad. But life is full of surprises and dad carried on having more adventures. He lived for a time with each of us, finally coming back to Dalmeny, shortly before he died.
The last couple of years had been particularly difficult with his failing health but he was not only looking forward to his 90th birthday ... but had sights on 100.
While we all know how dad loved us, there was a very special place in his heart for his grandson, Adam and his wonderful wife, Terri. We can never express how grateful we all have been for how they looked after dad and treated him with the respect and dignity he deserved. It was a challenge at times, but they were always there for him. And, there is no doubt that the bonus of having three lively great-grandchildren ... aided in prolonging his life. Carina, Alexander and Adrian are going to miss ‘Grampa’ very much.
Paul was predeceased by his father, Murray Logue and mother, Margaret (nee Macphee), brother, Richard, sister, Mary (Howard) Farrell and sister, Loretta.
He will be terribly missed by daughters, Judy (Lester) Swain, Amanda Dunbar; sons, David (Trisha) and Steven.
As per dad’s wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place and dad’s ashes will be disposed of by the family.
