Verna Florence Slysz
Verna Florence Slysz, age 78 years, of North Tryon, P.E.l., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011 in Charlottetown.
Born in North Tryon, P.E.I., she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Adelaide (lves) Wood. She attended Prince of Wales College and later trained as an X-ray technician. She married William Slysz of New Britain, Connecticut in 1961, lived in Connecticut for 18 years and later moved to Sackville, NB, where she worked as an X-ray technician at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. Retiring in 1994, she returned to the Island where she enjoyed her family, her Church, and her cottage.
Verna is survived by her four children, Garth (Andrea) Slysz, Remi (Brian) Christianson, Gordon (YoungMi) Slysz, and RaeAnne (Mike) Bekkers; four siblings, Joyce (Harry) Stark, Garth Wood, George (Ione) Wood, JoAnne (Earle) MacDonald; and 14 grandchildren, Joshua, Luke, Katherine, Ben, Teagan, Julie, Stacy, Lily, Sophie, Janelle, Hannah, Micah, Samuel and Noah.
A funeral service will be held at Tryon United Baptist church on Oct. 7 at 1:30 p.m., Rev. Annette Wells officiating; there will be no visitation by family request. A private family committal service will take place in the Tryon People’s Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Verna may be made to the Tryon United Baptist Church.
