It is with sad but thankful hearts that the family of the late Ralph Archibald Nichols announce his passing on Saturday, August 4th, 2012 at the Palliative Care Unit of the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, surrounded by his family he went peacefully to be with the lord. Ralph is survived by his daughter Debbie (John) Cole, son Donald (Veronica) Nichols, grandchildren: Jamie (Natalie) Cullihall, Ashley Coombs (James), Andrew and Katherine Cole, brother Reg Nichols, sister in law Eileen (Ted) Tipple and brother in law Cecil (Emily) Fralic. Predeceased by his beloved wife Julie and eldest son Dale, parents Norman and Hannah Nichols, mother and father in law: Harry and Annie Oxford, sisters and brothers in law: Ruby and Carl Hussey, Blanche and Roland Penny, Norma and Joe Butt, Marg Fralic, Dorothy Brennan, Gord Oxford and Harold Locke. A beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Always willing to lend a hand he was a friend to many people from all walks of life. He worked for Bowater’s and Kruger for 42 years. A volunteer par excellence he tirelessly worked for many years with a determined and passion rarely seen today. He assumed assorted leadership roles within St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church including founding member of Killdevil Camp in Lomond. A few of his countless community involvements include Deer Lake Town Council and Deputy Mayor; during his short term as Mayor he spearheaded the fight to keep the Deer Lake Airport alive. Joint Humber Valley Development Committee, School Tax Authority, School Board, Library Board, Historical Society and Industrial Safety Board etc etc… A life time member of the Masonic Lodge and a proud Shriner. In his spare time he was an avid vegetable gardener. Visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive Deer Lake on Monday August 6th from 7-9PM and Tuesday August 7th from 2-4 and 7-9PM, the celebration on his life will take place on Wednesday August 8th at 2PM from St Michael and all Angels Anglican Church with The Reverend Canon John Meade officiating, interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Wight’s Road. As expressions of sympathy, no flowers by request but donations will be gladly accepted for the St Michael and All Angels Building Fund, Shriners Patient Care Travel Fund or the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Cancer Care Center.
