SIMPSON, Muriel M. – October 31, 1918 – October 21, 2012. Muriel Simpson, age 93 years, formerly of the Webb district, passed away on Sunday October 21, 2012 at the Masterpiece River Ridge Care Center in Medicine Hat, AB where she had been a resident for the past few years. Muriel, the third child of Douglas and Ann (Barker) Johnston, was born on October 31, 1918 in Kisby, SK. Muriel married Stanley Simpson on February 26, 1940 in the United Church Manse in Arcola, SK. Muriel and Stan met while she was working as a domestic helper for the August Radtke family, neighbours’ of the Simpson’s in the Webb area. A celebration of their 50th Wedding Anniversary occurred in 1990. They resided on the Covington Farm in the Webb district until moving into Swift Current in 1983, with the farm auction being held in June 1989. Muriel was a hard worker who worked along side Stan on the farm helping with the farm chores. She was the one who always milked the cows, tended to the large vegetable garden and looked after the house and family. She was a dedicated homemaker who very much enjoyed entertaining and always had a freshly baked and iced cake ready to serve to company. Muriel will be remembered for the love and generosity given to her family. She will be remembered as a worrier- she worried about everything. She always had her hair done every week, even if this involved driving back out to Webb after moving into Swift Current. And she remembered everyone’s birthday-sending cards and always arranging or attending a birthday party. She also enjoyed a good giggle in spite of the many hardships endured during her life. Muriel was a long time member of the Webb Homemakers Group. She enjoyed curling and being a part of the social events in the area – coffee parties, foul suppers, bridal showers, weddings, or funerals. She was an avid fan and supporter of the Swift Current Bronco hockey team and the Swift Current Indian baseball team. She worked several winters with other committee members organizing and writing the Webb History book. Muriel was predeceased by her parents, a sister Evelyn and four brothers, Ellwood, Harvey. Stanley and Murray, a daughter Audrey and son- in-law Tommy Bartole in 1973, husband Stanley in 1992, and son Lyle in 2005. Muriel leaves to cherish her memory daughter-in-law Sharon Simpson, Medicine Hat, AB; three grandchildren, Donna (Brent) Bosch of Red Deer, AB, Ken (Nicole) Simpson and Lynette (Wes) Hood of Medicine Hat, AB; great-grand children Taylor and Ryley Bosch, Tanner, Karissa and Alycia Simpson and step-grandchildren Jessica and Jordan Hood; a sister Nora Bushel, Weyburn, SK; sister-in-law Mary Simpson, Maple Creek, SK and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. from the First United Church, Swift Current with Reverend Sharon Ferguson-Hood officiating. Soloist was Larry Jaster. Internment took place at Webbview Cemetery, Webb, SK. Pallbearers were Brent Bosch, Ken Simpson, Wes Hood, Delbert Jensen, Arthur Nelson, and Randy Fenwick. The ushers were John Martens and Dennis Gatzke. Memorial gifts may be made to the Webb Community Cemetery, R.M. of Webb 138, Box 100,Webb, SK S0N 2X0.
