Dorothy Theresa (Gillis) MacKenzie, 82, Halifax, formerly of Sydney and Benacadie, passed away Jan. 8, 2013 in Parkstone Enhanced Care Centre.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Minnie (MacNeil) Gillis.
She is survived by daughter, Linda (Dan), Halifax; sons, Earl (Heather), New Glasgow and Doug (Heather), Halifax and grandchildren, Alexandra, Abigail and Yuli; sister, Joan Marsh, Ontario and sisters-in-law, Anna Gillis and Georgetta ‘Dodo’, both of Sydney.
She was predeceased by her husband, Angus in 1975; brothers, Hughie (Rita), John ‘Shortie’, Lauchie ‘Lala’ and sister, Effie (Joe) O’Brien.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Parkstone Enhanced Care Centre, Sullivan’s Lane, who did such a wonderful job looking after mom over the last two years.
Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of TK Barnard Funeral Homes, Halifax. A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Barra parish, Christmas Island, Cape Breton.
