Harvey Holland
RIVERTON – Joseph “Harvey” Holland, 86 of the Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Stellarton and Toronto, passed away December 28, 2012 in the villa.
Born in Quebec, he was a son of the late Arthur and Mary (Rooney) Holland.
Harvey was a resident of the villa for the past seven years having previously resided in Stellarton and Toronto.
While living in Toronto he was employed with the CPR for over 35 years and served as an usher at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Toronto for some 40 years. Prior to working for the CPR, Harvey had worked for the Gaspe Copper Mines for a number of years.
Harvey was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton.
When Harvey was able to get around better, he enjoyed spending overnight visits with his niece Cindy and her family. He also enjoyed attending the annual Canada Day Parade in Westville.
He is survived by brothers Andrew (Charlotte) Holland and David Holland both of Toronto; a sister Eleanor (Willis) Astles, Stellarton; a sister-in-law, Audrey Holland, nieces Cindy (Terry) MacKenzie, Dartmouth; Cathy Holland, Toronto; Della Stewart, New Glasgow; nephews, Jerry (Brenda) Holland and Donald Holland, both of Toronto; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Robert Holland and Homer Holland and a sister Maureen Patterson.
Cremation has taken place.
The family will receive visitors from 1 p.m.-1:45 p.m. Tuesday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton, from where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. with Father Peter MacDonald presiding.
Donations in memory of Harvey may be made to the Valley View Villa, Riverton.
