Wilfred Cedric Lohnes

It is with sadness that the family of the late Wilfred Cedric Lohnes, 89, of East LaHave and Bridgewater announce his passing on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middle LaHave, he was the son of the late Leo and Ora (Shankle) Lohnes. Wilfred was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church and served as warden. Wilfred first went to sea with the merchant marine during World War Two. After the war he returned to Middle LaHave where he married his beloved Bernis. He continued to follow the sea by serving as cook aboard several vessels, after which he went to work at the Lunenburg Fish plant from where he retired after over 25 years of service. Wilfred had a great love of cars which he shared with family and friends. He was also active with the Middle LaHave Cemetery. Wilfred was just 18 days shy of his 90th birthday, an event that he and his family were looking forward to. Wilfred is survived by his daughters Eleanor (Sam) Walters, St. John’s N.L., Linda ( Brian) Hooper; Bridgewater, sisters Constance Corkum; Lunenburg, Leolyn (Harry) Walker; Centre, Gwendolyn MacLeod; Pleasantville, Arlene (Blair) Williamson; Kingston. He will be missed by grandchildren Donette (Jon) Tizzard, Danielle (Al) Morse, Christopher ( Tanya), Colin Hooper and great-grandchildren Maria, Abby and Ethan. He will be especially missed by his special friend Iva Romkey. He was predeceased by his wife Bernis, infant daughter Sharon Eloise and brother Burton. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A graveside committal service will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Middle LaHave Cemetery, Middle LaHave. Rev Jane Reid officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Middle LaHave Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
