JEAN, ELAINE LOIS (neé BALSOR) - October 19, 1916 - August 27, 2013 - Elaine peacefully passed away at the Montfort Hospital, Ottawa, on Tuesday, August 27th at the age of 96. Her husband, Dr. Yves Jean of Quebec City, predeceased her in 2005. She was the daughter of Harry and Edith Balsor of Kentville, N. S. A graduate of Acadia University B. SC. (Home Ec) '39, and Syracuse University M.Sc. (Home Ec) HH '46, she subsequently taught at Acadia where she also supervised the Home Management House. After her marriage, she taught school in Toronto, Quebec City, St Andrews, N. B., and Kentville, N.S. She and her husband spent two years in Sri Lanka with the Colombo Plan fisheries program, 1954-56. Elaine is survived by her sister, Laurel neé Balsor, Acadia '63, and her husband, Gar Pardy, Acadia '66, of Ottawa; her nephews, Michael and Julian, and grandnephew, Rowan. Her younger brother, Harry Robbins Balsor, was killed in action in December, 1944, during WW II in eastern Italy.
Her ashes will be interred beside her husband's in a private ceremony at the Lakeview Cemetery, King`s Co., N.S., at a later date. Donations in Elaine's memory may be made to an organization of your choice.
