Bunny McLaughlin

PICTOU – Joseph Vincent “Bunny” McLaughlin, 93, of Elm St., Pictou, died Sunday, September 1, 2013, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
He was born January 27, 1920, in Pictou, the eldest son of the late Joseph and Mary Ethel (Gray) McLaughlin.
Bunny served overseas during WWII, where he met and married Kathy Mason who joined him in Canada three months after he arrived home in 1946. They started out in Nova Scotia, and then moved to the west coast living in numerous places across Canada returning to settle in Pictou in 1966. They were married for 59 years, until Kathy’s passing in 2004. Bunny was a skilled tradesman who worked in carpentry, plumbing and electrical, retiring from the Pictou Shipyard as an electrician. He was a founding member and past president of the Overseas War Veterans Association and a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Pictou Golf Club.
Bunny is survived by sons, Robert Vincent, Halifax; Jonathon Gray, Pictou and granddaughter, Amber Marie McLaughlin; brother, William (Mary), Braeshore; special friend, Verna Bronson, Pictou; numerous nieces and nephews.
Bunny was predeceased by his wife Kathleen “Kathy” (Mason), sisters, Zita Marcella McLaughlin, Catherine “Joe” Giovannetti.
The family would like to thank Jason Clish for his support and friendship to Bunny.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the Pictou Legion.
Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit or to the Canadian Red Cross Society.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 16, Pictou will meet at the funeral home at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday to conduct their service.
