STELLARTON – It is with deep regret that the family of D. Joan Reade, announce the peaceful passing of our mother on November 19, 2013 at Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home in Trenton.
Joan was born in Stellarton on January 13, 1930. She resided in Stellarton until the age of 40 when she moved to Rockland, Massachusetts. Joan returned to her native Pictou County in 2000.
Joan was fondly loved by many and she will be lovingly missed by her family.
She was the daughter of the late John F. and Dorothy Cameron of Stellarton.
She is survived by three daughters: Lillian (John) Cassidy, Stellarton; Elaine Leadbetter (Greg Gallant), Oakville, Ont.; Sheila (Wayne) Murray, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.; and one son, Paul Leadbetter, Calgary, Alberta. Joan is also survived by three grandchildren: Genesta Cassidy and Jeffrey Cassidy, both in Alberta and Christine Farnsworth, Quincy, Mass.; two brothers, Roland (Helen) Cameron, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow and Gordon (Carmilla) Cameron, Stellarton; sister-in-law Audrey Cameron, Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Ralph Cameron and two brothers in infancy.
Joan studied to become a CNA in the U.S. at the age of 40 and nursed at the Mildred Alfred Nursing Home in Abington, Mass. until her retirement at the age of 65. Joan's passion was caring for the elderly and she loved each and everyone she cared for. She was an ardent baseball fan and played softball with the church league in Pictou County during her childhood years.
The family would like to extend sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Shiretown Nursing Home and Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home for their care and love of our mother. Your kindness to our mother will never be forgotten.
The family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel in Stellarton. Funeral service will held from the funeral chapel on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Joan be made to the Alzheimer's Society or Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home, Trenton.
