Stewart McMillan Bishop - 77, of Greenwich, Kings County, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at home. Born on December 7, 1935 in Wolfville, he was a son of the late Robert and Gladys (Newcombe) Bishop. He was employed for 30 years as an engineer in the Planning and Development Department of the Municipality of the County of Colchester and was involved with the design and development of sewage treatment and waste management systems. He had a passion for building and flying model airplanes. He was an avid sailor and committed to the promotion and preservation of the National One Design (NOD) boat class. Stew had a unique, unsinkable sense of humour coupled with lots of chuckling and belly laughs. He loved music, especially Swing, was an accomplished trumpet player, and founded the Kings Community Concert Band and the Nova Swing Band. During the winter months, Stewart also enjoyed curling. He is survived by his wife, Conny (Floris); three daughters, Jennifer, Dartmouth; Heather (Darryll) Taylor, Truro; Tineka (Gabriel Landry), Mississauga, Ontario; a son, Robert (Madhavi), Milton, Ontario; two brothers, Avard (Sandy), Greenwich; Garth (Madeline), New Germany; two grandchildren, Cadence and Zachary. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Rev. Mr. David Hasler officiating. A reception followed in the Greenwich Fire Hall. A private family burial took place in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses or the Annapolis Valley Palliative Care Program.
