HERSEY (Kelley), Gertrude Frances – age 95. It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Gertie Hersey, wife of the late Lyall Conrad Hersey on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at Grand View Manor, Berwick. She was born on November 23, 1918, in Port Williams, the daughter of the late George and Alice (Reeves) Kelley. Gertie loved life and enjoyed cooking, knitting, gardening and had her own hairdressing business in Mink Cove, Digby Co. for 27 years. She loved to wait on people, was very kind hearted and loved company. Gertie was a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick. Gertie is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Taylor (Gary), Berwick, and their children, Brenda Taylor (Greg Best) and Brian (Kathy) Taylor; Carolyn Ward (Kent), Quispamsis, N.B., and their daughters, Frances Tucker (Nevin) and Karen Purdy (Derick); great grandchildren, Nicholas, Jeremy, Jenna, Colten, Kaslyn, Samantha, Cameron, Mason, and Averey; a great great grandson, Hayden; she is also survived by sisters, Marjorie Murphy and Velma Belliveau; brothers, Malcolm Kelley, all of Berwick; Lawrence Kelley, Thamesford, Ont.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband and parents, Gertie was predeceased by sisters, Mildred Jones and Jeanette Hicks; brothers, Cecil and Vincent Kelley. There was no visitation. A celebration of life was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 29, in Christ Anglican Church, 238 Commercial St., Berwick, Rev. Maya Bevan officiated. Burial in Sandy Cove, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grand View Manor. Marilyn and Carolyn wish to extend their grateful thanks to Staff and Head Nurses of Chase Ward for their professionalism and dedication in looking after Mom. Thanks are also extended to Doctors Goddard and Bustin for the care given to keep Mom comfortable.
