James (Jim) R. Dawe, an engineer, a builder and fixer, spent most of his life making things work for other people. He grew up in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, and fell madly in love with Jeanette MacDonald, the light of his life for 55 years. Jim moved to Burlington, Ontario where he excelled professionally as an engineer. He was a member of Mensa International and a walking encyclopedia for his family and friends long before Google. He was a devoted husband, an uncle, a brother and brother-in-law, a friend, BBQ griller, a story-teller and a rock. He dabbled in macrame, wire art and captured the lives of his family in photographs. Always the champion, if he played you in a game of cards or chess, he won! Jim's booming laugh was resounding and contagious, and he retained a childlike sense of wonder and magic, dreaming up adventures that gave his family a sense of celebration and purpose. To his nieces and nephews, Uncle Jim taught the magic of Santa with calls from the North Pole at Christmastime. A math genius offering tutoring sessions in Algebra, he also introduced them to the imaginary world of the Psnarfus and to the wonders of the Farckleberry. His parents, Warren and Edith Dawe and his sister, Jean G. Brake passed before him. He kept their legends alive in his stories. Left with a lifetime of memories is his resilient wife, Jeanette, his partner in all things. Jim treasured every single family member. Grateful for that love are his brothers-in-law Stan Brake and Allan MacDonald, sisters-in-law Marilyn (Vic Saccoccio), Melinda (Bill Coles) and Joan MacDonald (Tom Carey); his nephew Warren Brake (Jennifer Higgins); his nieces Katherine (Sean Fancey), Sabrina Saccoccio (Adam Brodie), Suzanne Carey (Peter MacDonald) and Jacqueline Carey; his great-nephews Matthew Fancey, Aaron and Jeremy Higgins-Brake, and Oliver and Jesse Carey MacDonald, and great-nieces Robin Fancey and Ruby Brodie Saccoccico. Cremation has taken place. Donations can be made in Jim`s name to the Joseph Brant Hospital, Palliative Care Unit.
