Margaret Irene Byrne
Passed on: August 2nd, 2015
Passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday August 2, 2015, Margaret Irene Byrne. In keeping with her lifelong habit of never revealing her age, her secret will be honoured in death. Grateful for having the incredible good fortune of sharing her life and heartbroken from her loss are her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Jim, along with her cherished children, James (Alyce Lyne), Bob (Madonna) and Lisa (Derek Dunphy). Left with fond and loving memories of Easter Egg hunts and dinners at Nan's are her nine grandchildren, each of whom she truly adored, Ryan Clarke (Tiffiney), Laurissa Clarke (Jon), Erica Clarke Whalen (Wes), Robyn, Kayla (Mike), Meagan, Janessa, James, and Robert Byrne. Also leaving to mourn, her sisters Madeline Insalco, Joan O'Reilly (Tom), Geraldine Haring and Maureen Whalen (Ray), along with a large circle of family and friends. Marg/Mom/Nan was an avid Bridge and Crib player. She could spell any word in the English language and solved many tough crossword puzzles, right up until her final days. She was a fountain of knowledge for just about anything - from stain removal to manners. She was smart and caring, with a rock solid faith in "The Man Upstairs" that carried her through life's challenges and to whom she regularly encouraged her family to "keep your lines open to." She said many a prayer during her full life, with amazingly positive results, so much so, that we believed she had a direct line to Him. At St. Theresa's, she served many years as a Eucharistic Minister and enjoyed singing in the Adult choir. A perfectionist by nature, she often said that, "any job worth doing is worth doing well." An approach she applied in her life, so richly and fully lived. Always quick to lend a hand, stuff homemade soups, beans or chili in your freezer, provide a ride in Nan's taxi, drop off that forgotten lunch box, swim suit, etc., or to provide a caring ear when the going got rough. When complimented that "this was the best chicken dinner ever" by her eager diners, she would often reply, "I must have been pretty bad when I started." She wanted nothing but the best for her family, whom she dearly loved. She was a phenomenal wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, whose spirit and wisdom will be carried in our hearts forever. Hers is a presence that will be deeply missed by all who loved her so very much. Special thanks to the personal care staff of Tiffany Village, who she described as "wonderful" and her longtime hairdresser and Crib rival Jacki Templeman, who were all so good to her. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home. Visitation on Tuesday, August 4, 7-9 pm and Wednesday, August 5, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Theresa's Church on Thursday August 6 at 11:30 am with Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. We have been so richly blessed to have had her in our lives. May she rest in the arms of the Man Upstairs.
More Things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of. Wherefore let your voice rise like a fountain night and day. - Tennyson
