Donald 'Don' G. Jobe

It is with heartfelt sadness the family announces that Donald 'Don' G. Jobe, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015.
Don was born in North Sydney, Cape Breton and he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Gillis) Jobe.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; his son, Peter and his wife, Jennifer of Moncton; two granddaughters, Jessica and Rebecca of Halifax along with his brother, Reginald (Regina) of North Sydney, plus a nieces, nephews and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Capstick and Catherine Vallar.
Don was educated at St. Joseph’s and Sydney Academy. In his early years he served with the R.C.A.F. Greenwood, N.S. Later he joined Household Finance, where he managed several offices throughout the Maritimes, eventually settling in Saint John.
Don owned and operated Meisner’s Grocery on the lower west side for many years. Later he became the manager of the Westfield Golf and Country Club before moving into a long and successful career as a financial planner. He began with Canada Life and later joined Investors Group. At Investors Group, Don earned the Chartered Financial Planners designation, one of the first in N.B. He retired from Investors in 1998.
Don demonstrated his commitment to his community and professionalism through his involvement with numerous organizations; he was the past president of Westfield G&CC, served as governor for the NBGA, chairman of the Board of Referees for the Unemployment Insurance Commission, N.B. representative on Canada’s Pension Plan, Toastmasters, as well as a former Rotarian and member of the Probus Club. Don was associated with the Federal PC Party as treasurer. Was involved in fundraising for United Way, Hospice and also served as a director on the Foundation for the Rocmaura Nursing Home.
Growing up, Don was very active in sports and played senior baseball and hockey in the N.S. Valley League. He was a well known coach for many years in the Lancaster Hockey Association. He enjoyed speed skating and his passion for golf by playing for many years at both Westfield G&CC and Riverside G&CC. To this day he still loved his Yankees and Leafs.
Don truly enjoyed nature and the outdoors; gardening became a passion later in life. He was also an avid reader and bridge player.
Don had a special love for life and family, especially for his two granddaughters, Jessica and Rebecca. He will be missed and loved forever by Shirley, his wife of 60 years.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424).
A funeral service celebrating Don’s life will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help beginning at 11 a.m. with a reception immediately following the service. A private family interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
In memory of Don a donation to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or Romero House would be appreciated.
