Burton Elliott Findlay age 90 of Lorne, Pictou County passed away March 23, 2017 at his home in Lorne.
Born in Lorne he was a son of the late John Hugh and Margaret (MacNaughton) Findlay.
Burton was raised in Lorne, returning to live there in 1985. He was a retired employee of Irving Oil Ltd. where he had 40 years of service. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell.
Burton was a very community minded person and had volunteered at the Lorne Community Hall for a number of years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and used every opportunity to go camping with his family.
Burton’s passion for draft horses started at an early age when he used them for working in the woods.
Family was the most important part of Burton’s life and he could see the best in everyone.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years the former Joyce Munroe, Lorne; daughter Denise MacRae (Bill Clarke), Hopewell; granddaughters Christina Fraser (Darcy), Saskatoon; Becky Fraser, Westville; great-grandson Jude, brother Milton (Catherine) Lorne; sister Elaine (Dara) Rector, Moncton; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother Elmer, sister Evelyn Thompson, several nieces and nephews and a foster brother Sandy MacDonald.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Saturday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. Funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday in the First Presbyterian Church Hopewell with Bonnie Langille officiating. Burial will be in the Lorne Cemetery.
Family flowers only.
Donations in his memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell or a charity of your choice. A reception will follow the service in the church hall.
