Charles Donald ‘Donnie’ MacCallum, 72, of Upper North River, passed away peacefully, Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Upper North River, he was a son of the late Suther and Bessie (MacLeod) MacCallum. Donnie’s passion in life was his wife and family whom he loved very much along with all his friends. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone, no matter what the task might be. He was a hard-working self-employed individual of many different things but mostly enjoyed his blueberry fields. He loved the outdoors and all that nature had to offer. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Violet Boomer; daughters, Susan Violet Thorne (Ross), Cooks Brook; Betty Ann Butler (Michael), Lake Egmont; sons, Douglas (Colleen), Waverly; Ross (Pam), Nuttby; grandchildren, Jennifer, Mary Catherine, Darren, Gaven, Cameron, James, Kyle, Justin, Jeremy; great-grandsons, Dawson and Dustin; step-grandsons, Lee and Jamie. He was predeceased by brothers, Arnold, Allister. We, Donnie’s family, would like to give our special thanks to the VON and Palliative Care for their compassionate and excellent care given to Donnie. Also a very special thanks to Dr. Bruce Phillips for all his kindness shown. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, funeral service 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, all in the Mattatall Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, Pastor Greg Porter officiating, with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Interment to be held at a later date in the Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of NS, Canadian Cancer Society, or to the Nuttby Baptist Church.
