AMHERST, N.S.– Sarah Jane Gillis born in Inverness, N.S. February 9, 1925, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, N.S. on Friday, February 16, 2007. Sarah lived most of her live in Mabou, Inverness and Trenton, N.S., moving to Amherst just six years ago. She resided at White Birches Retirement Residence, just recently moving to Gables Lodge. Predeceased by her husband, John Neil. Surviving are son, Al Gillis (Wayne Prychun), Toronto, Ont; daughter, Sylvia Sutherland, (Robert Sutherland), Amherst, N.S; grandchildren: Melini (Scott Purdie), Bradley and Shannon Sutherland; brother, Robert Murray, Sydney, N.S.; sister Elizabeth (Libby) Shier, Lady Smith, B.C. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Anna May Murray; sisters: Ella Murray, Catherine Gillis, Elvie MacDonald and Lizzie Chisholm; brothers: Malcolm, Thomas, James, Fred, Johnny, Francis, George, Angus and Alexander. Her remains are resting in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St, Amherst, (902-667-9906) with visiting on Sunday, February 18, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Charles site of Holy Family Parish on Monday at 2 p.m. with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Inverness, N.S. Donations in Sarah's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. We would very much like to thank the staff of the CRHCC ICU and Palliative Care Unit, and Dr. Lawrence, for their compassion and professionalism.
