BREWER, VIRGINIA MARY The death of Virginia Mary Brewer, occurred at Pine Grove Nursing Home in Fredericton, on Friday, January 2, 2004. She was in her 89th year. She was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, a community that always remained dear to her heart. She resided there until she became a resident of Pine Grove in 1998. She is survived by two sons, Charles Verhille (Rena), Fredericton and Major William Brewer (Joan), Hartford, Ct, of the Salvation Army. In addition she is survived by eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Mary Wright Verhille and Charles Verhille and her husband, Charles Edward (Eddie) Brewer. Virginia was a committed member of the Salvation Army in St. Stephen for much of her adult life, where she will be remembered for her efforts to make life easier for those in need. She was always ready to lend a hand whether it was for the Terry Fox Run, raising money for the local fire department, knitting mittens or whatever worthy project became known to her. In recognition of her contribution to compatriots and community, she was presented with various awards and acknowledgments by the Salvation Army. The St. Stephen Fire Dept., the Town of St. Stephen and in 1992 received The Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. Funeral arrangements were made by S.O. Mehan and Sons in St. Stephen and the service was held on Wednesday, 7, January 2004 with Capt. Chris Rideout of the Salvation Army in Saint John officiating. A tribute was made to his mother by Major William Brewer.
