EUREKA – Jean Horton of Eureka, passed away October 23, 2007, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Eureka, she was a daughter of the late William and Beulah Orpha (Riley) Pye. Jean was a resident of Eureka all of her life where she was a member of the former Wesley United Church, Eureka and Silver Light Rebekah Lodge No: 79 Hopewell where she had been past Noble Grand. She was a former employee at Valley View Villa in Riverton for over 20 years. Jean was a member and past president of the ladies auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No: 75 Eureka. She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Eureka Fire Department. Jean also worked as patient service co-ordinator of the M.S. Society and was involved with the Pictou County Arthritic Society. She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Peggy), Eureka; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; also a daughter-in-law, Jane Horton, Little Harbour. Jean was predeceased by her husband, James; son, Bill, brothers: Russell, Chester, George, and Ernest; sisters, Minnie and Irene; great-grandson, Nicholas. Her remains have been cremated. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Friday, October 26, both in St. Columba United Church, Hopewell with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Burial will be in Riverton Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, St. Columba United Church, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton.
