Bessie (Stewart) MacVicar 1916-2007 HALIFAX, NS - The family of Bessie MacVicar, with gratitude for her life lived and love shared, wishes to inform that her death took place on Friday, August 03, 2007 at her home in Halifax following a number of years of failing health. Born in Mount Stewart, Prince Edward Island, a daughter of Jessie Ruth Toombs and Benjamin H. Stewart she grew up in Georgetown PEI. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, John in infancy; and sister, Irene (Bob) Hobbs. Survived by Rev. Edward, her husband of sixty-nine years; son, Stewart (Betty) Ottawa; daughter, Rev. Diane MacVicar, Halifax; grandchildren, Jeffery, Andrew (Maureen), Amy (Hamilton) Humenny all of Ottawa; five great grandchildren; special niece, Ella Andrews of Dartmouth; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a member of The United Church of Canada, a charter member and life member of The United Church Women and actively participated, formally and informally in congregations served by her husband in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes. She and her husband lived twenty-five of their retirement years in Riverview, NB before moving to Halifax in 2002. Our thanks to members of the medical profession and all others who contributed to her comfort and well being. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. A service of celebration and thanksgiving will be held Wednesday, August 8 at 2:00pm in Edgewood-Oxford United Church, 3055 Connaught Ave. with a reception to follow in the church. Memorials may be made to The Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada, The Canadian Cancer Society or charity of the donors choice.
