SMITH, Kenneth Allen "Ken" - 99, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his own home with family members present, on Saturday evening, March 13, 2010. Born April 4, 1910, in Winnipeg, he was a son of the late Walter and Bertha (Stiles) Smith. Ken was a member of Saint David's United Church in Bible Hill. He farmed for most of his life and also worked with Department of Lands and Forest and Amherst Aerospace from where he retired at age 65. He and his wife loved and cared for foster children for over 30 years. He enjoyed woodworking until age 90 and also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and maintaining a large apple orchard. Ken is survived by his children, Kenneth Jr. "Kenny", Dartmouth; Maxwell "Max" (Christine), Enfield; Martin (Myrna), Fenwick; Marjorie (Brian) Letcher, Bible Hill; grandchildren, Laura, Sarah, Andrew, Erin, Joshua, Nicholas, Brandi, Donnie, Tera; great grandchildren, Mohsin, Zonaira, Isabella; sisters, Freda Anderson, Burnaby, British Columbia; Clara (Norman) Evans, Amherst; Eva Ripley, Parrsboro; brother, Robert "Bob", Tignish; many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jessie Irene (Collins); sister, Evelyn; brothers, Harvey, Maxwell. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 1 pm, Tuesday, March 16, 2010, Reverend Ebbie W. Snow officiating. Spring interment in Bible Hill Cemetery. Flowers or donations in Ken's memory to Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice are welcomed.
