ROBINSON, Mary 'Lorraine' - Lorraine's life was full of love, laughter and friendship. Born on January 16, 1930 to Hal and Gladys Griffin (nee Tuttle), Lorraine grew up in Pugwash Junction where her stylish wardrobe, supplemented by pieces imported by cousins from the eastern United States, made her a standout beauty. Her education took place in the Junction's Margaret King School where she later taught her own classmates for a few months. Lorraine would never have described herself as an artist but she was. Her hands were always busy with fabric, yarn, aida cloth and floss, card stock, tole paints, ribbons, wraps and bows. So many works of art have been gifted over the years. They will be treasured. Lorraine always said she was lucky to have such wonderful friends. It wasn't luck. It was because Lorraine, herself, was a wonderful friend. Always ready with a hug, a great meal on a beautifully set table and most likely at some point, a smart-ass remark, Lorraine's smile, laugh and generous nature were loved by many. Lorraine was so proud of her chosen children, Dean (Halifax) and Cheryl (Dr. Scott Theriault, Halifax) and her grandchildren Jordan (Queen's University) and Rachel (Acadia University). She had a very special place in her heart for her newest adopted daughter, Susan Kerr. Her last days saw Lorraine getting lots of love and wet kisses from grand-dog Mika. Lorraine was married for 52 years to her love, Robbie (Irwin) who knew he wanted to marry her from their first meeting when Lorraine was 13 years old. Lorraine took a little longer to warm up to the idea but never regretted her decision to finally say 'I do". As a result of Robbie's years with the Royal Canadian Air Force, they both made their way across Canada, picking up the kids in Whitehorse, and finally settling in Digby where they have lived for 38 years. Lorraine's wish to stay in her home was honoured and she lived her last days surrounded by her family and supported by friends as the generosity and love she gave freely was returned in full force. Lorraine's wishes were specific. There will be no funeral and no "tears over teacups." Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held in Pugwash Junction at a later date. Friends will be contacted later this spring or summer when we will throw a huge party and talk about her behind her back.
