Blake McCullogh of Rothesay passed away peacefully on April 18, 2010, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Blake was born in Montreal on June 16, 1922, the son of the late Jack and Ruth (Christie) McCullogh. He served as an officer in the 17th Hussars, the reconnaissance regiment for the 3rd Canadian Division, in north-west Europe during the Second World War. Blake joined the Iron Ore Company of Canada in the early 1950's. Over his thirty year career with IOC, he served in a number of management positions in Schefferville, Sept Iles, Contracœur and Labrador City. With his friend, Dick Geren, he co-authored 'Cain's Legacy", the history of the IOC. On retirement he settled in Rothesay. Blake was a member of St. David's United Church, the Riverside Country Club, the Byng Boys, RUSI and Probus. He was predeceased by his beloved and much missed wife, Evie (Trefry) in 2001, his daughter, Maureen Smith, and his brother, John. Blake is survived by his sister, Joan Jennings (Doug) of Oakville; his sons, Kenneth (Cindy) and Michael; six grandchildren, Jennifer Peacock (David), Geoffrey (Rebecca), Andrew (Vanessa), Jœl Smith (Brittany), Jane Bridgeo (Steven), and Benjamin; twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm from St. David's United Church, Gondola Point Road, Rothesay.
