It is with much sadness that we announce that Anthony 'Tony' Blaise Hawrylak of 60 Breton St., passed away peacefully Friday, June 18, 2010, at home.
Born in Sydney, Tony was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Anne (Black) Hawrylak.
Tony lived most of his life in Whitney Pier, with the exception of four years service in the Armed Forces. Upon his return to Sydney, he was employed at the Sydney Steel Plant, and worked there until his retirement in 1998.
Tony is survived by his four brothers, Michael (Colleen), Gregory (Carol) and John (Linda), all of Sydney, and Joseph (Lee), Sault Ste. Marie; three sisters, Rose (Mike) McNeil, Sr. Margaret, Sydney Mines, and Sr. Elaine, Sydney.
Tony was predeceased by a sister, Kay Boutilier and an infant brother, Robert Bruce.
Adhering to Tony's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation and memorial service to honour the late Tony Hawrylak will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Saturday, June 26, 2010. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12-2 p.m. with memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. with Fr. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Reception will be shared after the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
Donations in Tony's memory may be made Palliative Care, Cape Breton Regional Hospital or charity of one's own choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Pier Community Funeral Home.
At this time, the Hawrylak family would like to express its deepest gratitude to Beth Latham of Palliative Care and to Victorian Order of Nurses, especially Paul Letournal for their compassionate and competent care given to Tony during his time of need.
