George Robert Parker - 71, of Scott's Bay Road, Canning, Kings County, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 following a courageous battle with cancer. His loving wife and family friend were by his side. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Joyce Cox; daughter, Brenda (Ed) Corkum; son, Joe (Daphne Kennickell); three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Rhoda (Carl) Bennett; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Marjorie (Bennett) Parker; brother, Mark "Duckie"; sister, Merita Sullivan. George was a truck driver and had been employed with Jordan's Dairy, Cornwallis Trucking and most recently, Maurice's Ready-Mix for over 30 years, from where he retired. George enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music, attending variety shows, four-wheeling, camping and working with wood. Special thanks to Denise and Kenny Rand for their care and support and to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses - Palliative Care, Dr. Catherine McNally, the QEII and the VG Dickson Building Oncology Department. There was no visitation, by family request. A private family graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 in the Habitant Cemetery, Kings County, family friend, Bill Patterson officiating. No flowers, by family request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses - Palliative Care or the Canadian Cancer Society.
