It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we the family of Florence Margaret (Ley/McPhee) Hogan, 72, of New Waterford announce her peaceful passing on Oct. 31, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Lucy Ann (LeBlanc) Ley.
Florence was predeceased by her first husband, James McPhee, daughter, Donna Grace, sister, Sabina McKinnon, brother, Alex Ley, two brothers in infancy and two granddaughters, Nicole and Holly, New Waterford.
Florence leaves behind her husband, Patrick Hogan; daughter, Jo-Ann Jennex-Desin (Bill); sons, James McPhee (Fern), Robert McPhee (Angie), all of New Waterford, Stephen McPhee (Kelli) Alberta; stepchildren, Patrick Hogan (Christine), Alberta, Trace Hogan, Sydney. She also leaves behind sisters, Louise McCallum (Howard), Sydney, Isabelle Smith (Len), Ontario, Mary Leudy (Tony), New Waterford; brothers, Wilbert Ley (Eileen), Sydney, and Paul Ley (Mary), Sydney; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; many special nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law, sons and daughters-in-law, friends and her pride and joy, her dog, Matty.
Florence worked for many years at the New Waterford Consolidated hospital with the dietary staff, and owned a local business in New Waterford with James McPhee known as Flo's Bake, Pop & Pizza. She was a longtime member of the New Waterford Lioness club holding all offices, a past member of the New Waterford Legion and the ladies auxiliary of the KOC. Her greatest enjoyment in life was providing a wonderful home for her loving family.
We the family would like to thank the staff of the CCU at the Regional Hospital with special thanks to nurses Joy, Jen and Amanda, who helped make her passing as easy as possible with their special care and kindness.
Visitation will be held today (Tuesday, Nov. 2) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Florence will take place Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, will Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. A luncheon will be held at the Carmel Centre immediately following the funeral mass.
