John Kevin 'Red' Saunders, 56, of Lunenburg, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Devoe) Saunders.
Red is survived by his son, Paul Saunders (Jennifer Findlay); daughter, Shannon Saunders (Terry Nauss); ex-wife, Sharon Saunders; three grandchildren, Charley, who will greatly miss his best buddy, Nikki and Jasmine, all of Lunenburg; brothers, Bernard, Kenneth, Ernie (Lillian), Alexander 'Buck'; sisters, Marie (Robert) Potter, Rose (Bill) MacRae, both of Sydney Mines, Judy Young, Florence, Matilda 'Tillie' (Michael) O'Toole, Alder Point; Bernadette 'Goodie' Saunders, Ontario; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, William James Saunders and brother-in-law, Charlie Young.
A gathering for family and friends to share their memories of Red will be held at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. 3, Lunenburg, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Sydney Mines at a later date.
Memorial donations in memory of John Kevin Saunders may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, or SHAID Tree Animal Shelter.
