At the Kings County Memorial Hospital in Montague on Thursday, June 18, 2009, of Mary Matilda (Tilly) (Compton) MacLeod of Montague. Tilly was born on March 31, 1927 at Charlottetown. She was the daughter of David Compton and Elizabeth Lamont. She was married to her cousin Harold S. MacLeod of Lyndale. It is interesting that the midwife at their birth went from his place to her home as there was only a matter of weeks between their ages. The midwife was Mary Hume, a grand aunt of Tilly and her husband. Although they did not know each other until adults, yet the attraction of blood was strong, they married in 1952 and spent over 57 years together. She was the loving mother of Janis Samms, Cornwall, and Stephen MacLeod (deceased June 1, 2007). Tilly is also survived by her brother, Rev. David Compton, and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Resting at Ferguson's Montague Funeral Home where the service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 3 p.m. Interment in the Orwell Head Cemetery. Visitation: Saturday 7-9 p.m. only.
