ROBART, Catherine Bernice - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Bernice Robart June 29, 2017 at her home in Oshawa, Ontario. As she had told it many times, she was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on August 9, 1944 during a crackling good thunderstorm, without a doctor in sight. She often blamed this dramatic start to her life for her ‘triple A’ personality - always thinking, always doing, always on the edge of something; and why she was super-attuned to the world and the people around her. The first image she said that she remembered was a framed large black and white rendering of Jesus Christ hanging on the wall at the foot of her bed; eyes looking rapturously skyward, one hand over his sacred heart, his other hand showing the wound left by his crucifixion. She said that as a child, the picture gave her comfort and influenced her idea of who she wanted to be - a warm, empathetic person who people naturally gravitated to for guidance and comfort; and she was. She was proud to share with anyone who listened that she raised three children on her own while holding down three jobs and still found time to jump in puddles with them during rainstorms. She mined the gold out of every moment of joy in her life. She was silly and fun-loving. She met tragedy with strength and humour. She took in strays of all species because she couldn’t bear to see suffering. Her never-ending smile drew you in and warmed you. She loved music and was unable to sit still when it moved her, as it so often did. She danced as if she were channelling all the joy and suffering of the world into her little five foot body. Catherine was predeceased by her parents, Mary Eileen (Smith) Robart and Lendley Irving Robart; three brothers - Irving, Stanley and Murray; sisters - Alice and Rose. She is survived by her three daughters, Cheri, Oshawa, Ontario; Lisa, Toronto, Ontario and Denise, Whitby, Ontario; her grandchildren, Allie and Jacob, both of Whitby, Ontario; her siblings, Donald (Elaine Washington), Framingham, MA; Doris, (Fred Phillips), Brossard, Quebec; Bobbi (Colin Lawrence), Etobicoke, Ontario; and Sharon (Arthur Johnson) Greenville, Yarmouth Co., NS; as well as her nieces and nephews and their children and her many friends. She will be sadly missed by all. Cremation has taken place and her ashes were interred in the Mount Lawn Funeral Home Cemetery in Whitby, Ontario July 6, 2017.
